Credentials to check
Prescribed electrical work in New Zealand must be done by a registered electrical worker (EWRB) and certified. Where an electrician has added their EWRB registration, their TCH profile shows it, and where we've checked it against the register the badge carries the date. An Unclaimed listing carries none, so check the EWRB register yourself. Master Electricians membership shows the same way.
Does my electrician have to be registered?
Yes: prescribed electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrical worker and issued with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC). Check the EWRB register before they start. Where the electrician has added their registration, their TCH profile shows it.
What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I need one?
A CoC certifies that electrical work is safe and compliant. You should receive one for prescribed work: keep it; it matters for insurance and when you sell.
Can an electrician install my EV charger or solar?
Yes, a registered electrician handles EV chargers, solar connections, data and security. Check their EWRB registration on the public register, and any specialist experience on their TCH profile.
