What TCH is not

TCH checks credentials against the public registers, publishes a directory, and gives a job somewhere to keep its record. There are three things it does not do.

TCH is not a guarantor of workmanship. A verification confirms a credential existed on the public record on the date we checked. It is not a guarantee of workmanship, price or conduct. The badge tells you the licence was real that day. It does not tell you the job will be done well, and TCH does not stand behind the work. Trust & Safety sets out how a check is made, and how it ages.

TCH is not a party to the contract. TCH is where a customer posts work and a trade responds. Any contract for that work is between the customer and the business directly. TCH is not a party to it, does not supervise it, and does not guarantee the quality, safety or completion of anything built. That is clause 4 of the Terms of Service, in the same words.

TCH is not an insurer. TCH holds no cover on a member’s behalf and pays out nothing if work fails, causes damage, or is left unfinished. Insurance on a job is the trade’s own: the terms expect a business to hold the insurance it needs for the work it lists, and you are entitled to ask to see a current certificate before work starts.

What TCH does do. It checks a credential at its public source and shows the date it was checked. It keeps the record of a job where both sides can see it: quotes, decisions, variations and photographs, in writing, with dates on them. When something goes wrong, that record is what you have, and a person here reads every complaint that reaches hello@thecontractorhub.co.nz.

This page is the plain-language version. The full wording is in the Terms of Service, and in the answers on Help & FAQ. Where this page and the terms differ, the terms are the fuller statement and this page is the mistake, so tell us and we will correct it here.
