Spare Hands

Cover your dry weeks

A consent stalls, the weather takes a fortnight, or the next start moves out three weeks. You can usually see it coming. List those weeks in advance so another team can plan you in. Your crew stays paid and stays yours, and your invoicing keeps moving.

“Any building teams keen for an extra hand? Two leading hands and an apprentice available for a fortnight, 12 to 23 October, Auckland wide.”

Each listing says who is going, how many, what dates and what region.

How Spare Hands works

Keep the hours and the cashflow
A three-week delay with nowhere to send the team is three weeks of wages you either carry for nothing or ask good people to go without. Listing the gap puts it where another business can plan the crew in, so the crew keeps its hours and you invoice for them.
They stay your crew
Nobody is being hired here. Your people stay on your books, your PAYE and your insurance for the whole window, and they come back to you at the end of it. You invoice the other business; they pay you.
List it before it bites
Most dry weeks are visible weeks out: the consent is stuck, the slab has moved, the client has gone quiet. Put the window up as soon as you can see it and somebody has time to plan you into their programme. A gap posted the Friday before it starts is a gap you will probably wear.
Trusted teams, both ways
You are lending people you vouch for to a business you can look up. Every live listing is a TCH member with a profile, a trade and a region behind it; example listings are marked as examples. Ring them and check the work.
This is not recruitment
Windows are capped at 13 weeks on purpose. An open-ended offer of spare hands is a labour-hire company, and this board’s whole promise is that every gap on it is real and short.
No named individuals
A listing describes the shape of a crew (two leading hands, an apprentice), never named individuals. Their names, tickets and details stay with the business that employs them, which is where employment records belong.
Settle it in writing
Site inductions, health and safety duties, who supervises, and what happens if somebody is hurt are for the two businesses to agree before anyone starts. TCH makes the introduction and keeps the record; the arrangement is yours.
